Location: Littlehampton
Conditions: Low tide, flat, slight cross shore easterly wind.
On the train home from work I figure it would be a good idea to go kayaking. I get home at 7.20pm and at this time of year it gets dark around 9.30pm so with just over 2 hours we should be able to manage a quick go. I call Scarlet and she’s up for it too.
7.20pm – Off the train, quick stop at the shops for some sandwiches and drinks, then back home to pack my kit bag.
7.35pm – Scarlet arrives and we fit the roof rack to the car, and strap the kayaks to the roof rack.
7.50pm – We set off for Littlehampton.
8.20pm – Arrive at the beach, I unpack and change while Scarlet shoots to her flat to get her gear and get changed
8.40pm – Oops; another spring Low tide means a long trek to the water. Luckily we have our new C-Tug to pull one kayak, although it did need assembling first. I carry the other kayak.
9.00pm – We make it to water! Not much daylight left, but as always it’s great to be in a kayak in the sea again. We have a quick paddle around as the clouds burn from orange to pink.
9.40pm – With not much light left we come in, and balance both kayaks on the C-Tug for the haul back.
10.00pm – Pack away, and get changed.
10.30pm – Leave for home.
11.00pm – Arrive back, unload kayaks and gear.
11.20pm – All done, now to eat…
At lot of effort for such a small amount of time on the water. Maybe we would have been better off going in the river, but the sea always has more appeal for us…
